The house
Mania Mansion makes clothing in Kathmandu to a standard usually reserved for European ateliers.
We began in 2019 in a workshop off Durbar Marg with four tailors, two machines and one conviction: that Nepal has the fibre, the hands and the eye to make clothing as fine as anywhere in the world — and that the only thing missing was someone willing to refuse every shortcut.
The fibre
Our cashmere is combed from Chyangra goats grazing above four thousand metres in Mustang and Dolpa. It is bought directly from herding families, spun in Kathmandu, and knitted within an hour of the workshop. Nothing is shipped abroad to be finished and shipped back.
The hands
Forty-one people work at Mania Mansion. Every one of them is paid above the Kathmandu living wage, works a five-day week, and is named on the label of the garments they finish. A pashmina shawl takes six weeks on a single handloom; we have never found a way to make that faster that we were willing to accept.
The house pattern
Our tailoring is drafted on blocks we developed ourselves, cut for how people are actually built here rather than scaled from an imported size chart. Every full-price garment includes a complimentary first fitting at the atelier.
